This week’s rant…pigeonholing<\/strong>….<\/p>\n O.K.<\/p>\n here the dictionary definition…<\/p>\n A polymath<\/strong> (Greek<\/a> polymath\u00c4\u201cs<\/em>, salve<\/a> \u00cf\u20ac\u00ce\u00bf\u00ce\u00bb\u00cf\u2026\u00ce\u00bc\u00ce\u00b1\u00ce\u00b8\u00ce\u00ae\u00cf\u201a, meaning “knowing, understanding, or having learnt in quantity,” compounded from \u00cf\u20ac\u00ce\u00bf\u00ce\u00bb\u00cf\u2026- “much, many,” and the root \u00ce\u00bc\u00ce\u00b1\u00ce\u00b8-, meaning “learning, understanding”[1]<\/a><\/sup>) is a person well educated in a wide variety of subjects or fields.[2]<\/a><\/sup> Polymaths are also described as persons with encyclopaedic or broad or varied knowledge<\/a> or learning<\/a> [3]<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n So when some twat with a M.A. in a very small specialist area …say Indian Textiles and Dodecahedrons in Southern Spanish Art 1290-1329…says you have to specialise point them towards one or more of the following….<\/p>\n David Lynch<\/p>\n Butch Hancock<\/p>\n Terry Allen<\/p>\n John Byrne<\/p>\n Alistair Gray<\/p>\n Mariscal<\/p>\n Scottish Generalists<\/p>\n Patrick Geddes<\/p>\n I could add more….usually never English by the way<\/p>\n Then tell them to **** *** very politely<\/p>\n I do everything because everything is interesting….<\/p>\n England is full of specialists which why when you say I write songs, paint, write poetry, review music they go glassy eyed…..You cannot be serious because you are not an academic specialist…<\/p>\n Well I met a specialist in angels recently and his grip on reality a lot less sound than mine but there academic privileges to hold on to..ditto 50% of Oxford Dons….I once met one who showed me photos of builders he’d taken because he’d never seen one before…….world expert on rare apples….says it all really…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" This week’s rant…pigeonholing….
