The Double Vision Arts Programme, developed by Carol Crowe and Eleanor Youdell, is providing arts activities for service users alongside Double Impact’s training and support groups.

It is an innovative scheme: a voluntary sector organisation working in partnership with an artists group to explore an enriched approach to work that is challenging for both providers and participants. It is delivered mainly by artists from the Lady Bay Open Studios group, and funded by Arts Council England East Midlands, the Nottingham Crime and Drugs Partnership (formerly Drug and Alcohol Action Team) and Double Impact. The arts group now has a core of regular participants as well as offering drop in activities, it has established strong relationships and developed ideas for the direction of work.

The Pilot programme of eleven workshops introduced participants to a range of activities, artists and public exhibition, with visits to theatre and galleries, and a website was set up. Artwork was made individually and together as a group: after the exhibition some participants kept their artwork and some was put on display around the project.

During the following period there were more workshop sessions, and involvement in Streetwise Opera, an outstanding production with participants performing at Nottingham’s Council House. A short programme explored Film, creating hand drawn slides to make digital film using computer software.

A great deal of achievement and learning, with feedback, evaluation and consultation with participants, artists and partners, informed the next stage which was developed with a new structure and further aims.

Starting in January 2006 two themed programmes, Journey and Feast, have enabled participants to work in greater depth with lead artists over a six month period, each presented in a public exhibition. As well as exploring the theme, artwork was made in response to the group’s visits to arts events. The work was also presented at the national conference on Aftercare, which was hosted by Double Impact in September.

Each programme has a section in this website, there are details about the artists and the partners, and a page to contact the project. We would always be pleased to provide further information and a presentation of the work.

The next programme will explore digital media including sound, photography and film, and online resource and presentation.
