Double Impact is a non-statutory drugs and alcohol agency, in operation since 1997. Recognised by the Nottingham City Drug Action Team as one of the leading aftercare providers in the city, it has recently been cited as an example of good practice in various government documents. Our primary aim is to enable people recovering from problematic drug and alcohol use to move away from social exclusion, towards education, vocational training and employment.
It has been well documented that participation in creative activities promotes self-esteem, facilitates self-expression and maximises learning potential amongst socially excluded groups of people. As a service, Double Impact strives to provide its clients with opportunities to change their lives and to move towards a new identity.
The provision of high quality arts activities as part of our current programme of IT, Personal Development, Life-Skills, pre-vocational and vocational training is a natural response to the service’s growth and development as a whole, and the overwhelmingly positive response to the pilot project.
Double Impact as a service is constantly developing and evolving, our provision of arts activities are a key aspect of this. The arts programme, Double Vision, provides an ongoing platform and testing ground for people to explore their creative skills and develop their confidence. Clients working within a positive and purposeful artistic environment, with the support of experienced artists, are able to gain skills, develop new thinking and extend their horizons of activity.
Going forward, Double Impact will be working to establish arts activities in partnership with Framework and City Arts and build mutually beneficial working relationships with key arts venues in the city.
