This morning comes news of Penguin/apple tie-in or is it exploitation? Is this where the digital literature wars really start?
One has to purchase Mr Fry’s new novel which actually called
‘The New Adventures of Stephen Fry’
so far there only the MyFRy (abridged) iphone app for this on itunes…so not only monetising income streams but subdividing by hardware platform ..be warned…
Is this the glorious multi platform future…..how long before paper like vinyl a higher priced ‘choice’?
Even cleverer there a simultaneous audio book ( is it like Nick Cave recording bundled into apps I bet not….)
Fry has a deal with apple as a early adopter with significant market clout…hence his free 4G phone….its sponsorship by any other name..maybe apple helped finance the book along with penguin..be interested to know the truth…
Ah cleverer still the app (£7.99 folks) may not be full text of book…as he himself says it not the book but an ‘opportunity’
He promises it’s not just “doing something rather prosaic like reproducing the printed book” no bet not no money in not selling it twice is there Mr Fry.
So you have to wait for an e-book ipad full version to come ( not available yet fancy that) meanwhile they fleece the first thousand fans….this becoming Barnum like in its sincerity…
The iphone app displays on ipad at iphone size 🙂 the ipad app (not released) is full book designed to circumvent the ebook reader market and draw direct into ipad …full colour etc etc….let the electronic book wars commence…
I shall be leaving MyFry on the Myshelf ..maybe it should be iFry……
after all he is their best selling app:-)
Mr Fry’s cuddly persona is flogging you a dead app…
and…
If ipad is upgraded to another platform in five years time your collection of ipad/ebooks becomes redundant..
smart sharp thinking Jobs…
makes cassette to CD monetizing look small…
