Journal #4 Moogee?

here comes Moogee…almost

Some decisions had to be made this week as an image for the brochure has to be ready by next Monday. I am collating the images for the designer and we plan to display in a grid. So whatever I put here should link and reflect what I show then…..hence the analysis lately…or put up or shut up time.

After a lot of soul-searching (see below) I have decided to get Moogee the cartoon dog out of the kennel again. Even if I had a backlog of recent painting I’m not sure that it would work in context of the gallery space or the other work being shown. Looking through the Lustre catalogue I feel the overall feel of the connect show this year (may have been different in previous years) is slanted heavily toward craft..even those who consider themselves more artists are actually craft orientated. In this context I have decided to go with Moogee and maybe push him in Beyond The Gallery module toward the cross-platform reseller area. I have been given some websites where t-shirt/mugs/merchandising takes place.

A friend thinks writing my strongest feature – in whatever context so trying to work around that and maybe plan for future – artists books / press etc.

For Connect show which has to have some images I going with Moogee because popular – maybe four new large canvasses 🙂 I can do in week once decided what to draw/paint:-)

I am looking at the post David Shrigley / Banksy area. i.e. not high fine art but not quite craft either. Probably best description is the JUXTAPOZ magazine area. Best local example here would be Jon Burgerman’s ‘art’ which actually graphic design in my opinion which crosses over into murals, shop toy design and printed canvasses.

after some reaction from a fellow artist i been pushed into sub-dividing the output. The Moogee stuff ( Arts Hub more than keen to take more if I send it ) is perfect for developing in Beyond the Gallery module but friend thinks I should keep pushing the TEXT stuff and maybe take it on to an architectural scale – this perfect as matches with the scale of my mentor to be’s work.

SO….plan C..been through A & B already is….or could be

1.SHOW:  TEXT direct to gallery wall on large scale and incorporating the flower texts. Drawn from the ‘Train Diary’ work.

2.Beyond the Gallery: Take Moogee into ‘commercial’ area directly through reseller websites and marketing – in a very ‘craft/business’ sense…

At last things starting to make a little sense after all the soul-searching.

Research : Architectural artworks and mass marketing .

Development Targets: Develop Moogee website – lo-fi no programming and user-friendly
